REPORT TO MT. ZION’S CONGREGATION ON |
|
NOTE: The casual reader may conclude that he/she has no particular interest in this topic. Fact is this is a significant financial topic for Mt. Zion, both now and into the future. Mt. Zion has 13 individual HVAC systems of varying ages for heating and cooling (some are heat pumps, others central A/C combined with oil-fired furnaces). The reason there are 13 such systems is because of the manner in which the individual buildings were constructed over time beginning in 1914. Such systems do not last forever and over-time need to be repaired or replaced. The majority of the 13 systems are quite old and major parts therefore no longer available. This, combined with changes made in the construction of new HVAC systems, basically means that if a given system fails to function, the likely solution may very well need to be to replace it with a new system, the cost of which being around $10,000 per. Currently as of May 2026, of the 13 systems all except two are functioning. One of those two does not at this time need to be replaced, but there is one which does, it being that which serves the Choir Room and the Senior Classroom and hallway leading to the kitchen, Hungry Team food closet and FLC foyer. There are two action items indicated, one short-term and one long-term:
The Board of Trustees and the Leadership Board concur that the means of addressing both the short-term and long-term needs is the establishment of an HVAC FUND, to which individuals and church affiliated organizations so inclined could make financial contributions thereto, as well as during the annual budget preparation process allocate funds for this purpose. Any such contributions made at this time and/or in the future would be cheerfully and appreciatively received, simply indicate that such is for the HVAC FUND. It goes without saying that any funds contributed to the HVAC FUND, or for that matter any capital improvement project, cannot be to the detriment of contributions required for the church’s general operating budget. |
